Installed in the Rail Yards’ Interim Walkway is a new High Line Art commission – a series of abstract sculptures by artist Adrián Villar Rojas. The sculptures themselves are composed partly with seeds, vegetables, and compost from the High Line. Over the course of the yearlong installation, Rojas’s seemingly sturdy sculptures will crumble and sprout new growth, gradually taking on a greater resemblance to the surrounding landscape. this one also contained trainers and other clothing.
When Warhol first exhibited Campbell’s Soup Cans, in 1962, each of the thirty-two canvases rested on a shelf mounted on the wall, like groceries in a store. The number of paintings corresponds to the varieties of soup then sold by the Campbell Soup Company. Warhol assigned a different soup variety to each, checking them off on a product list supplied by Campbell once their “portraits” were completed.
